EAST HARTFORD, Conn., and HARRINGTON – Andrew “Bud” Jackson Ramsdell Jr., 89, passed away peacefully Aug. 27, 2009, with his loving companion, Isabelle Hall and family by his side. He was born Jan. 14, 1920, in Harrington, son of Andrew and Ina Belle (Woodward) Ramsdell Sr. Andrew served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, enlisting in 1939 until 1944. He then did active duty for 13 years. He married Paula Jette Ramsdell and they had four children. He worked as a specialist in tile and floors. He worked at HH Snows, Orleans, Mass., and then worked at Chatham Furniture, Chatham, Mass., for 15 years. He freelanced in Ellsworth, where he lived for 25 years. Andrew moved to Ellsworth in 1971, residing at the Jordan House. He was great friends with Elva Judd and her family, who owned the Jordan House. He was an avid Red Sox fan who never missed a game. Andrew was so happy to see two World Series championships in his lifetime. He greatly enjoyed watching old movies, playing cribbage and doing crossword puzzles. He was proud to be an American veteran and loved his country. Andrew was known as a “gentleman’s gentleman.” He loved life and enjoyed numerous trips with Isabelle and her family. For the past nine years he had been his happiest, spending winters with Isabelle in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and summers in Harrington. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren treasured moments with Andrew. He will be sorely missed. He is survived by his three children, Brian S. Ramsdell, Michael A. Ramsdell and Donna Ramsdell DeVasto and her husband, Francis. He leaves seven grandchildren, James E. Ramsdell and his wife, Julie, of Virginia, Andrew D. Ramsdell and his wife, Amy, of New Hampshire, Elizabeth Ramsdell Dunbar and her husband, Keith Dunbar, of Burlington, Vt., Hanna Ramsdell of Troy, N.Y., Amy Ramsdell of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, Michael DeVasto and Emily DeVasto of Cape Cod, Mass. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins; his sisters, Rose Marie Palmer, Lillian Shaw, Gloria Flaherty, Marion Plummer and Joyce Woodward; and by his brother, Everett Ramsdell and his wife, Marge. He also leaves family of his heart: Isabelle Hall, Newell Hall and his wife, Janice Hall, of East Hartford, Conn., as well as Larry and Sue Hall, and Debbie and Neil Smith of Connecticut. Andrew was predeceased by his son, David R. Ramsdell; and a sister, Violet Lemay and her husband, John Lemay. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge. Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harrington Baptist Church, Route 1, Harrington. Burial will be afterward at Forest Hill Cemetery, Harrington.
