MEDWAY – Beatrice E. Nichols, 89, went home to be with the Lord Sept. 4, 2009. She had resided for the past three years at Colonial Health Care. Bea was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Mattawamkeag, daughter of Roy and Nellie (Trueworthy) Moore. Bea was widowed at a young age and throughout the years, worked at many different jobs. She worked for more than 25 years at Colonial Health Care, retiring at age 75. She was a member of East Millinocket First Baptist Church, where she was active in different areas of the church. She enjoyed going to Florida for many winters to stay with her daughter and family. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bea is survived by three daughters, Lizzie Ledger and her husband, Gerald, of Stuart, Fla., Judy Ledger and her husband, Edmund, of Medway and Shirley Pelkey and her husband, Raymond, of Woodville; grandchildren, Daniel J. Pelkey of Union, Mary Tompkins of Woodville, Angela Ledger of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Joleen Ledger of Snellville, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Ericraymond Tompkins of Norwood, Mass., Kapricemari Tompkins of Woodville and Daniel R. Pelkey of Union; a sister-in-law, Christina Gorski of Bristol, Conn.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard; parents, Roy and Nellie Moore; a daughter, Betsy Jean; grandson, Raymond D. Pelkey; sisters, Vivian Nichols, Nettie Gary, Margaret Craig and Grace Lucas; and brothers, Edward and Roy Moore. The family thanks all of the staff at Colonial Health Care for the care and love they showed our mother. They made things a little easier for her and we really appreciate it, thank you. Also to the doctors and nurses at Penobscot Valley Hospital for the wonderful care and their concern for the family, thank you. Visiting with family will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at East Millinocket First Baptist Church, 2 Oak St., where family and friends may gather for a celebration of her life 4 p.m. officiated by Pastor Gerald Craig. A gathering will be held after the service with refreshments served. Interment will be at a later date with the family.
