DOVER-FOXCROFT – Louise A. Whitten, 99, wife of 62 years to the late Duane Whitten, died Sept. 5, 2009, at a local nursing home. She was born Feb. 8, 1910, in Sangerville, the daughter of John and Suzie (Herring) Murch. Louise was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed writing poetry, sewing, crocheting, cooking and babysitting. She was famous for her apple pies. She was an active member of Dover-Foxcroft Advent Christian Church and sang in the choir for many years. Even in her 90s she could sing hymns and recite passages from the Bible. Louise is survived by her daughters, Joan Janke of San Diego, and Betty Dunbar and her husband, Terry, of Millinocket; a son, Clyde Whitten and his wife, Faith, of Palmyra; and a niece, Betty McKusick. She was Nana to 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ora and Lawrence Murch; and a sister, Thelma Higgins. Private services will be held for the family. Burial will be in the family lot at Rural Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home.
