BANGOR and BOSTON – Renee G. Newcomb, 57, beloved wife of Alfred R. Newcomb, passed away Sept. 15, 2009, at a Boston hospital after an extended illness. She was born Nov. 13, 1951, in Bangor, the daughter of the late Morris and Elaine (Fine) Rubin. Renee graduated from Bangor High School in 1969 and with distinction from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy in 1973. She was an accomplished pianist, studying at the prestigious Kneisel School of Music, Blue Hill, and at Longy School of Music, Cambridge, Mass. She performed with several orchestras in New England and gave chamber music recitals with her husband in the Greater Boston area. Renee was a champion of many charitable causes and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. She will be missed by her family and by her many friends across the country. In addition to her husband of Boston, she is survived by her sisters, Barbara Rubin of Glastonbury, Conn., and Fay Rubin and brother-in-law, David, of Portsmouth, N.H. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at Jewish Chapel, 118 Center St., Bangor, with Rabbi Steven Schwarzman officiating. Interment will be at Beth Israel Cemetery, Bangor.
