CHARLESTON – Alden L. Holmes, 64, husband of Lynn (MacPhail) Holmes, died Sept. 17, 2009, at his residence, after a 12-year battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 23, 1944, in Mount Kisco, N.Y., the son of LeRoy and Marion (Lape) Holmes. Alden was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who moved from New York 30 years ago to make a better life for his family. He loved playing the saxophone, gardening, watching golf, working around his home and being with his family. He was a faithful employee of Sam’s Club, Bangor, for 14 years. Surviving, in addition to his wife of Charleston are a son, James Holmes and his wife, Karen, of Bangor; a daughter, Julie Strout and her husband, Rick, of Charleston; six grandchildren, Rachael, Whitney, Rebecca, Shelby, Levi and Matthew; a cousin, Kathy Augustine; an aunt, Beatrice Lape, both of Greenwich, Conn.; many special friends including Ken and Cheryl Sullivan, Gary and Cheryl Strout, Richard and Michelle Nickerson, David and Honey Brown, and Scott and Shari Duthie; and many co-workers from Sam’s Club. He was also predeceased by special friends, Lloyd and Jane Duthie. The family thanks Dr. John Vanadia for his many years of special care and Dr. Adam Lauer for his assistance and caring. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, where memorial services will be held 2 p.m. with Pastor Robert Young officiating. Burial will be at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. The family invites friends and relatives to join them after the service at Whitetail Golf Course for a time of fellowship and refreshments.
