MADAWASKA – Dennis E. Dumais, 79, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, after an extended illness, at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born May 8, 1930, in Van Buren, son of the late Alfred and Bertha (Cyr) Dumais. He was a graduate of Madawaska High School, Class of 1948. Dennis enjoyed two careers, first in the men’s clothing business, which he ran with his father and brother. In 1970, he transitioned to a position as a U.S. Customs Inspector. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Between his military and customs service, he had 30 years of service with the government. Dennis served the community in many ways. He was a member of the board of directors at Northern Maine Medical Center, Fort Kent, for 17 years. He was a council member for St. Michael’s Chapel of Birch Point at Long Lake, as well as a fourth degree charter member of Madawaska Knights of Columbus, council No. 2638. He also served the parish as an usher, alter server and religious educator. Dennis enjoyed a life full with family, travel, skiing and boating. His hobbies included restoring antique clocks and home improvements. Creativity could be found in every aspect of his life, from art painting to building the lake house. He was the original jack-of-all-trades. Dennis is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lorraine (Greenier) Dumais of Madawaska; three sons, James and his wife, Cathy, of Hanover, Pa., Mike and his wife, Elizabeth, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Pete and his wife, Christine, of Golden, Colo.; three brothers, Dr. Clarence and his wife, Natalie, of Hunt, Texas, Dick and his wife, Rosemary, of Dallas, and Philip of France; one sister, Ida Mae Sullivan of Garrett Park, Md.; and four wonderful grandchildren, Ryan, Lydia, Nicholas and Alexandra. He was predeceased by two daughters, Denise and Karen. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, where friends and family may call 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.
