FREDERICK, Md. – Warren Van Conway, 70, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at College View Nursing Home, Frederick, Md., where he was a resident. Born Oct. 25, 1938, in Vinalhaven, he was the son of the late Max and Eleanor Conway. A Vietnam veteran, he retired in 1977 to Hagerstown, Md., after serving 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was involved in many community organizations, served as a volunteer fire police officer for many years, and was a member of the Vinalhaven VFW and American Legion. Surviving is his daughter, Pamela Phoennix Fraver-Conway Norton of Lexington, Ky.; two brothers, Herbert Conway and his wife, Margie, and Clarence Conway and his wife, Muriel, all of Vinalhaven; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Harry Conway. He is loved and will be missed. A memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at The Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, 20402 Beaver Creek Road, Hagerstown, Md., with Pastor Rachel Black officiating. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Vinalhaven Fire Department, Main Street, Vinalhaven, ME 04863. Arrangements are by Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville, Md.
