RUCKERSVILLE, Va. – As a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps for 28 years and one of the last remaining survivors of the Battle of Iwo Jima, Master Gunnery Sgt. William “Bill” C. Rogan, retired, reported to his final duty station Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, one week shy of his 85th birthday. Bill was predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Mildred Frost Rogan, and Clarence Manning; one sister, Lillian Constantine; and one brother, Edward Rogan. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 38 years, Mary Pellow Rogan; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Rowe; one son, William H. Rogan; two brothers, Thomas Rogan and James (Herbie) Rogan; and one sister, Rose Dinismore. The family extends their deepest appreciation to Hospice of the Piedmont, especially Mary Dillon and Joni Stepp. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Our Lady of the Blue Ridge, Madison, Va., where a funeral service will begin 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date in Brewer.
