HARTLAND – Doris Mae Lary, 85, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Feb. 23, 1924, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of Raymond and Tillie (Cameron) Ames. Doris graduated from Hartland Academy, Class of 1943. She married Merton Lary and together they raised their four children. She was employed at Baxter’s Canning, Hartland; the tannery in Hartland; and retired from Edwards Co., Pittsfield, but her most important job was raising her family. Doris loved her family and spent much time with them. She enjoyed taking care of animals and growing flowers. She supported the local churches by attending their suppers and took great joy going out with her friends for their Friday lunch group. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her. She is survived by her four children, Steven Merton Lary and his wife, Georginne, of Pittsfield, Jayne Denbow and her husband, Charles, of St. Albans, Janet Sanborn and her husband, Philip, of Hartland, and Jeff Lary and his wife, Brenda, of Hartland; six grandchildren, Carl Lary and his wife, Linda, of Hartland, Marcia Price and her husband, Chris, of Canaan, Mathew Denbow, who is serving in Iraq, and his wife, Sylvia, of Texas, Rebecca Silva and her husband, Christopher, of St. Albans, Nicole Sanborn and her fiance, Richard Bubar, of Hartland, and Brandon Lary and his fiancee, Jennifer Leathers, of Palmyra; eight great-grandchildren, Joe Lary, Mariah Lary, Sierra Price, C.J. Silva, Cameron Silva, Madison Bubar, Kyle Bubar and Cadince Sanborn; her special friend, Beverly Small of Pittsfield; and her beloved cat, Morris. She was predeceased by her husband, Merton Lary, in 1973; and her brother, Raymond P. Ames. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, with the Rev. Kevin Brooks officiating. A committal service will be afterward at Pine Grove Cemetery, Route 152, Hartland. All are invited to a gathering immediately after the committal service at Corinthian Masonic Hall, Route 23, Canaan Road, Hartland.
