NEWPORT – Florence E. Rowe, 78, died unexpectedly Sept. 26, 2009, at her home. Florence was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Waterville, the daughter of Albert S. and Idella R. (Overlock) Luce. Florence loved to read magazines and short stories. She enjoyed swimming, cooking, shopping and taking care of her home. In her younger years she liked to remodel houses and roller-skate. She is survived by her companion, Joseph R. Maguire of Newport; two sons, Wayne Rowe Jr. of Colorado and James Edward Rowe of Thorndike; one daughter and her husband, Terry and DeWayne Cossar of Exeter; one brother and his wife, Peter and Ellen Lessor of Newport; one sister, Dorothy Stevens of Oakland; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two special grandchildren that Florence helped raise, Gabrielle Tibbetts of Garland and Branden Crocker of Exeter; several nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by brothers-in-law, Edward Creamer and Floyd James. She was predeceased by her son, George Rowe; her daughter, Rita Rowe; and five siblings, Stanley, Madeline, Ellen, Eunice and Ella. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at Detroit Village Cemetery with Pastor Al Worden officiating.
