CENTREVILLE, New Brunswick – Lillian Goldena (Boyd) Reid Burke, 90, passed away Sept. 26, 2009, at Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, New Brunswick, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 5, 1919, in Mars Hill, the eldest daughter of John E. and Katie E. (Drost) Boyd. Lillian was a 1939 graduate of Aroostook Central Institute, Mars Hill. She married Leo Reid that year and moved to Upper Knoxford, New Brunswick, to be a farmer’s wife, where she resided until his death in 1975. She was remarried in 1977 to Sheldon Burke and moved to Royalton, New Brunswick, until his death in 1996. She then moved to an apartment complex in Centreville, New Brunswick, where she enjoyed her many friends and neighbors. She was a member of Knoxford Praying Band Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She had been a resident of Birch Haven Special Care Home since January 2009. Her hobbies consisted of cooking, especially her wonderful doughnuts and brown bread, which delighted her entire family. She also made several quilts for her grandchildren. She is survived by her only daughter, Katie Buck and her husband, Wes, of Mapleton; stepsons, Richard and Donna Burke of St. George, New Brunswick, Raymond and Karen Burke of Centreville, New Brunswick, and Robert and Debbie Burke of Halifax, Nova Scotia; stepdaughter, Kelley and Stephen Farley of Maynard, Mass.; grandchildren, Marla Longley, Michael W. Buck and Mary and Barrett Potter; stepgrandchildren, Justin and Mitchell Burke, Gregory and Panda Burke, Jason and Natalie Burke, Sarah and Jacob Farley; great-grandchildren, Michelle and Mitchell Longley, Lindsay and Michael S. Buck, Rachel and Isaac Potter, and Carter Burke; two great-great-granddaughters, Jenika and Katelyn Buck; sister, Ilean and Donald Burtchell; brothers, Ronald and Gertrude Boyd, Norris and Linda Boyd, and Wallace and Ella Boyd; and sisters-in-law, Sydna Reid and Vera Reid. She was predeceased by her parents; an infant brother, Arnold; sisters, Eva Bierce and Olga Beattie; her husbands, Leo J. Reid and Sheldon Burke; and a stepdaughter-in-law, Cora Burke. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, 2 p.m. Atlantic Daylight Time, Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Knoxford Praying Band Church. Calling hours will be held two hours prior to the service. Interment will be after the service at Upper Knoxford Cemetery.
