MADAWASKA – Velma M. Bourgoin, 69, passed away Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at a Madawaska health care facility. She was born July 24, 1940, in St. Antoine, New Brunswick, the daughter of Willie and Leanne (Desjardins) Cyr. She was married to her beloved husband, Gerald Bourgoin, for 49 years until he passed away in July 2007. Velma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always putting her family first. Velma and Gerald were known as one of the most loving couples in the area. She is survived by two sons, Gaetan Bourgoin and his wife, Nancy, and Pete and his special companion, Karen Dionne, all of Madawaska; two daughters, Joan Collin and her husband, John, of St. Agatha and Kathleen Caron and her husband, Benoit, of Packington, Quebec; six grandchildren, Amy, Stacie, Ashley, Jason and Kevin; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Collin and Faith Velma Collin; one brother, Ronald Cyr and his wife, Hugette, of Montreal; three sisters, Lucille Volois and her husband, Rejean, of Quebec, Pauline Picard and her husband, Roger, of St. Jacques, Canada, and Jeannette Bosse and her husband, Albert, of Edmundston, Canada; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her loving husband, Gerald Bourgoin, Velma was predeceased by one brother, Fernand Cyr. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Madawaska. Friends and family may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at Daigle Funeral Home. Interment will be at the parish cemetery.
