MILFORD, Conn. – Lt. Col. John “Jack” F. Poole, 92, a lifelong Milford, Conn., resident, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Milford Health Care. He was born Dec. 19, 1916, to the late Benjamin F. and Emily Ovenden Poole. Jack was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University, receiving a degree in marketing. He proudly served active duty in World War II and the Reserves for more than 20 years in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. Before retiring, he was employed in the marketing department at SNET. An active member of the community, he was a volunteer for Milford Police Department, American Red Cross and Boy Scouts of America. He was also talented in vintage clock repair. Mr. Poole is survived by his loving wife, Clara Barrey Poole; devoted children, Kathi Poole Maisano of Ansonia, Conn., Richard Poole of Sandwich, Mass., Steven Poole of Dumfries, Va., and Robert Poole of Alpharetta, Ga.; dedicated stepson, Hugh Smith of Milford, Conn.; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Benjamin G. Poole; stepsons, Dwight Smith and Barrey Smith; and first wife, Janice Bowne Poole. A memorial service will be held noon Friday, Oct. 9, at Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 North Broad St., Milford, Conn. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will full military honors will be after at Kings Highway Cemetery.
