WATERVILLE – Marvette Ann (Dunphy) Phillips, 62, of Waterville and Boca Raton, Fla., passed away Sept. 30, 2009, after a long battle with breast cancer. Marvette was born March 7, 1947, the daughter of Jerome and Florence Dunphy of Presque Isle. With her two brothers, James of Old Town and Michael of Oregon, she attended Presque Isle High School. She married Thomas Phillips of Blaine, where she raised a family of three children. They were married for 30 years. “Marv” or “Marvy” as she was known, was a 13-year employee of Graves’ Shop ‘n Save, Presque Isle, where she managed the deli and greeted and delighted customers, as well as employees alike with her smile and sense of humor. After moving to Boca Raton, Fla., in 1991, Marvette worked for Pulte Corp., then Centex Homes as an administrator and closing coordinator. Always with a smile, Marv was the person in the office who knew all the birthdays, as well as special occasions. During her life, Marv was well known for her gift giving tact, which has included her beautifully, crocheted afghans and cookie tins of specially made homemade goodies during the holidays. Marvette was also well known for her love of flowers, her love of Boyds bears and her love of Labrador retrievers, especially her chocolate lab, Bailey, who was her last companion and special gift as a puppy from Pulte co-workers. Marvette is survived by her brother, Jim and wife, Christine, of Old Town; her three children, C. Todd of Sun Valley, Nev., Carmen Tucker and husband, Tom, of Medford, N.J., and Melissa Zawistowski and husband, David, of Clinton; and four grandchildren, Kathryn of Augusta, Christina, Marian and Dane of Clinton. Marvette held a special place for Mike and Priscilla Phillips of Westfield, Col. James Phillips, retired, of Blaine and Ed and Beverly Phillips of Monmouth; and by her many nieces and nephews. Marvette’s life was further enriched by personal friendships with Carol Cowperthwaite of Mars Hill, the late Marilyn Lyon of Presque Isle and Vero Beach, Fla., and Joyce McLain of Coconut Creek,Fla. A sincere thank you is extended to Marv’s hospice caregivers, particularly Bertha and Lori.
