PONTA VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Stephen D. Sprague, 85, passed away Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, with his family by his side. Stephen was born Aug. 26, 1924, at Grand Lake Stream, son of the late Raymond and Ethel (Mullen) Sprague. Stephen worked for Alley Nason and enjoyed being a Maine guide. He moved to Bridgeport, Conn., and worked for Underwoods Typewriting Co. He also worked for Sikorsky Helicopter as a machinist. Later he returned to Princeton and worked for Georgia Pacific for 29 years in the machine shop. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 23, Baileyville, Lewey Island Lodge, Anah Temple Shriners, Florida Shrine Oriental Band and Beaches Shrine. Stephen and Jean were united in marriage Jan. 20, 1945, and enjoyed 65 loving years together. He will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by those who loved him. Stephen is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jean (Plaisted) Sprague; daughter, Sara Jones and husband, Jimmy Jones, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Samuel Sprague and wife, Stacey (Danley) Sprague of Baileyville; three brothers, Earl Sprague of Rhode Island, Billy Sprague of Florida and John Sprague of Grand Lake; two sisters, Joan Sprague of Connecticut and Evelyn Rainey of Connecticut; eight grandchildren, Billy Howard, Heidi Howard, Cory Bouley, Ryan Sprague, Christopher Sprague, Julia Sprague, Kassidy Danley and Kayli Danley; and four great-grandchildren, Stephen Howard, Pagie Howard, Madison Phillips and Jacob Phillips. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Oct. 17 at the Congregational church at Grand Lake Stream, with a graveside service immediately after.
