People who have old trophies of any variety who no longer have the space to store them are going to love this invitation.

Patricia Jenkins e-mailed that the Bangor High School Speech, Debate and Student Congress team will hold a tournament on Saturday, Oct. 31, and “we want to try something to keep the cost of trophies down.”

“So,” Jenkins continued, “we’re looking for old trophies that are collecting dust, or that people have put away in the attic.

“They can be trophies for any activity,” she continued, emphasizing “they do not have to be just speech/debate trophies.

“We’ll have plaques made up and let winners choose the trophy they want from the selection we collect. It could be a lot of fun.”

If you have trophies you would be willing to share, “we can use them,” Jenkins added.

For information or to donate a trophy or trophies, e-mail pjenkins@bangorschools.net or jpelletier@bangorschools.net or call 299-8381 or 992-5546.

Lyn Smith has announced that the Pittsfield Public Library will be closed Thursday, Oct. 15, for the library construction project.

With electricity shut down to install wiring in both the old building and the addition, “this will cause the wireless router to be unavailable, so personal laptop computers will not be able to be used outside the library,” Smith said.

“There may be other, short-term library closings, throughout the building construction project,” which is expected to be completed in December.

Smith wrote that library personnel would provide “as much advance notice, as possible, about any closings.”

The library is located on Main Street next to Unobskey College.

“The store has enjoyed a steady stream of folks who are preparing to spend the winter with a good supply of reading material from the bookstore collections,” Carter wrote.

“Fortunately, there are also many who are culling books from their own collections, as they either downsize or make room for new books.
