WEST GARDINER – Keith Albert Pomroy, 80, formerly of Pemaquid, passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at his home. He was born July 26, 1929, in Corinth, the son of Perley and Hazel Pomroy. He attended Bentley and Husson colleges, where he studied accounting and business education. He served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps, 1947-1950, where he achieved the rank of aviation electronics technician second class. Of his service during the Korean War, he stated, “I was proud to have been picked to serve in the Naval Air Corps even though I was just one of thousands.” Upon completion of his service, he went on to have a 25-year career with AT&T in New York. He chose early retirement in order to spend more time with his family. He had married the love of his life, Andrea Elizabeth Rockhold, and they returned to Maine to raise their son, Shawn Ross Pomroy. Keith flourished in retirement taking on several hobbies to include computing, woodworking, rug hooking and other projects. An accomplished sailor, Keith and his family enjoyed navigating the Maine coast near their home in Pemaquid Falls and sailing Sebec Lake on vacations. He also enjoyed ice boating and was happy to teach newcomers the sport. Philanthropists, he and his wife believed in giving back to their communities. An active volunteer, he gave hundreds of hours of service to both Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover Foxcroft; and Augusta General Hospital. Always quick with a joke and a smile, he brightened the day of staff and patients alike. A devoted family man, he is survived by his son, Shawn Ross Pomroy and Shawn’s wife, Patricia; his two grandsons, Nicholas Albert and Elvis Aaron, who will miss watching football with Grandpa in his big chair and playing at his house immensely; his sister, Nancy Elaine Soucy of Brewer; his many nieces and nephews, and their children. A memorial gathering will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at Geaghan’s Restaurant, Bangor. A fall burial is planned at Village Cemetery, Charleston.
