OLD TOWN and SOUTH PORTLAND – Robert A. Foss, 78, passed away Oct. 15, 2009, surrounded by his beloved wife and children at his home. He was born May 21, 1931, in Sanford, the son of Hiram and Nellie Jane (Pillsbury) Foss. Bob graduated from South Portland High School and attended the University of Maine before enlisting in the U.S. Army. After his discharge from the service, Bob worked for the Portland pipeline for a time. He retired from J.W. Sewall Co., Old Town, after 38 years of service, where he was the photo lab manager. Bob is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his children, Carol Letts and her husband, Richard, Jody Woods, Gary Bajkowski and his wife, Janet, and John Bajkowski and his wife, Lesley; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Cloutier and her husband, Raymond, Marjorie Swett and her husband, Glen, and Priscilla Ware and her husband, Joe. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Hiram, at a young age; his mother, Nellie and stepfather, Carlton Goodwin; and brother, Frank Foss and his wife, Norma. Friends may gather 1-3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 429 Main St., Old Town, where a celebration of Bob’s life will be held 2 p.m. The family asks those in attendance to not bring flowers, but rather stories of Bob to share with everyone. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
