GRAY – Fred W. Holmquist, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at Hospice House, Auburn. He was born May 10, 1924, in Westmanland, the son of Harold and Jennie Carlson Holmquist. He attended schools in New Sweden until the eighth grade and graduated from Caribou High School. He was a farmer with his dad in New Sweden, moving to Portland in 1959 where he worked at Fairchild Semiconductor for 30 years. He enjoyed building cupolas and ran his own woodworking business. He faithfully served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He married Alice Boudreau, June 27, 1947. He is survived by his wife of Gray; his children, Danny and his wife Linda, Dwight and his wife, Alice, and Peter and his wife, Lori, all of Gray; a brother, Stanley and his wife, Mary, of Heath, Ohio; a sister, Haroldine Holmquist of Malden, Mass.; grandchildren, Danny, Nick, Lisa, Benjamin, Jeremy, Samuel, Caleb, Katie, Jennifer, Jason and Jocelyn; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Paul, in 1975. Family and friends may pay their respects 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Holmquist home, 77 Egypt Road, Gray. Donations in his memory can be made to Gray Fire Department. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home, 24 Shaker Road, Gray.
