FORT FAIRFIELD – Orval O. “Mac” McGee, 82, husband of Lorna M. (Rediker) McGee, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 17, 2009, at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Nashville, Tenn., the son of Silas and Ruby (Smith) McGee. Mac was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II and was stationed on Guam. He earned four college degrees, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology from the University of Kansas at Olathe, a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry, a Bachelor of Science degree in plant pathology and a Bachelor of Science degree in entomology, all from the University of Florida. He made a career as a crop-spray pilot, spraying potatoes in Aroostook County and later spraying citrus and vegetable crops in Florida. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lorna M. (Rediker) McGee of Fort Fairfield; three sons, Samuel McGee and his wife, Jan, of Boca Raton, Fla., Michael Scott McGee of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Randy McGee of Nashville, Tenn.; three daughters, Brenda Job and her husband, Mark, of Allendale, N.J., Shannon Wofford and her husband, Robert, of Sanford, Fla., and Allison Basye of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Norman McGee of Franklin, Tenn.; one sister, Emogene Jackson of Henderson, Texas; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Zachary and Samuel Job, all of Allendale, N.J.; several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Mac’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service of committal will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Caribou, with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. McGee to the charity or organization of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
