BELFAST – Evelyn Mae Francis, 75, passed away Oct. 18, 2009, surrounded by her loving family, at Waldo County General Hospital. She was born June 6, 1934, at home in Searsmont, the second child of Augustus and Nellie Mae Heald. Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed many hours of ceramics, cross-stitching, sewing and reading novels. Evelyn was employed at a young age at Johnsons Valle’s Steak House, Portland; Augusta State Hospital; a steak house in Massachusetts and Penobscot Poultry for many years. Her favorite job was working for Joanne Miller at her company, ASK, for 10 years. Evelyn was a true caregiver for many people. She was a devoted, compassionate and dependable employee, a true delight. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Augustus F. and Nellie Mae Heald; brothers, Augustus Heald Jr. of Portland, Charles and Robert Heald of Gardiner; and granddaughter, Kelley Jean Newcomb of Swanville. Survivors include sisters, Ella and Joe Nickerson of Waldo, and Stella Hemenway of Arizona; daughter, Rhonda Hart and husband, John and their twins, Andrea and Elizabeth, of Rockport; daughter Linda Nash and husband, Craig, of Belfast; great-grandson, Gage Michael Newcomb of Belfast, whom is Kelley Newcomb’s son; Linda’s son, Matthew Newcomb and wife, Kim and their two children, Leah and Daven, of Topsham; daughter, Pamela Ripley and her children, Shayla and Nigel Belote, of Greenbush; son, Randal Ripley and wife, Pilar and their sons, Randal II and Timothy and his wife, Jessica Pendleton, of Bucksport; son, Kean Ripley Jr. and life partner, Ruth Cook and the children, Kean III of Stockton Springs and Michael, Amber and Nicholas of Belfast; great-grandchildren, Kean IV and Jackson, and Amber’s unborn child; daughter, Sandra and husband, Butch Philbrick and their children, Arrianne Redmond and Brieannah Philbrick, of Winterport; many nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Faith Palmer and Robert Day and his daughter, Ruby Evelyn Day, whom Evelyn adored; and dedicated friend, Warren Francis. Friends are invited to a memorial visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
