ETNA and BELFAST – Rowena Blanche (Cobb) Edwards, 75, passed away peacefully Oct. 20, 2009, at a Belfast hospital. Rowena was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Hampden, to the late Wilbur and Lillian (Condon) Cobb. Rowena grew up in Hampden and spent many of her younger years working in local restaurants as a waitress. Rowena loved to garden; this passion led her and her husband to own and operate their own greenhouse in Etna. Rowena was known for her beautiful flowers and gardens throughout the area. She and Bruce loved to travel in their motor home to many places. They enjoyed a trip to Alaska and spent several winters in Florida. In Rowena’s later years she enjoyed riding in the car looking at wildlife. Rowena will be remembered as a loving sister, aunt and friend to all. Rowena is survived by her siblings and their respective families, Ralph W. Cobb of Hampden, Donald Cobb of California, Bernice Connors of Connecticut, Laura Burt of Bangor and Phyllis Ricker of Newburgh; friend, Lillian Mayhew and husband, Elden, of Newburgh; several nieces and nephews, and other friends too numerous to mention. Rowena was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Bruce W. Edwards; and five siblings. Family and friends are invited to visit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Simpson Corner Cemetery, Smith Road, Dixmont, with Pastor Rick Libby of Souls Harbor Ministries officiating.
