HOULTON – Dorene L. MacIlroy, 82, wife of the late Robert MacIlroy, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at her residence at Madigan Estates. She passed quietly from this world, with family and friends at her side, into the promise of a better life forever. Dorene was born Sept. 9, 1927, in Stockholm, the middle child of Albin and Pearle (Burns) Larson. She is survived by her older brother, Kenneth, who has assisted and guided her in the last few years of her life. Her younger brother, Harold “Bud” Larson, passed away a few years ago. She had only one child, Brian and his wife, Diane, who live in Largo, Fla. Other family members include half brother and half sisters and their extended families, Robert, Larry, Rodney, David, Joan MacAfee, Linda Fitzpatrick and Barbara Spellman. She will be missed by her nephew, Terrence D. Larson; and special friends, Diane Bates and Rae Ann Hutchinson. She was a graduate of Houlton High School, Class of 1944, and went on to further training at Fisher College, Boston. Most of her adult life was spent as a librarian at Cary Library, Houlton, and later at Brewer Public Library. She was a member of the State Library Association and participated in their activities. She was an avid reader, and loved to play bridge and other card games. After retirement she returned to Houlton to be closer to her many friends and memories. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, with the Rev. Jesse Drysdale officiating. A gathering for fellowship will be afterward.
