NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Dr. Koster Kenneth Peters, 65, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at his home after an extended illness. Koster was born Jan. 17, 1944, in Portland, the son of Christopher K. and Evelyn (Mina) Peters. He grew up in Maine and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1962. After graduation from Tufts University in 1967, he attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 1971 as a doctor of osteopathic medicine, D.O. He completed his internship at Green Cross General Hospital, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Upon completion of his training, he returned to Maine, where he opened his general practice in Bangor. During this time he also worked as an emergency room physician at Taylor Hospital. In 1989 he moved his practice to Brewer, where he remained until 1995. He then relocated to Jacksonville, Ala., where he worked for two and a half years before moving to Dickson, Tenn. He practiced family medicine in Dickson, Tenn., until the time of his death. He served on numerous boards and committees during his 38-year career in medicine. He married Shirley A. Litel, June 4, 1971, and they were happily married for more than 38 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Christopher and Evelyn Peters of Westbrook and Bangor; brother, William C. of Westbrook; and sister, Sandra P. Hawkes of Bar Harbor. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Shirley A. Peters, originally from Missouri; his sons, Alexander K. Peters of Delray Beach, Fla., and Bryan C. Peters and his wife, Bridget, of Metairie, La.; his sister, Cynthia P. McIver and her husband, Roderick, of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Rachel and Gabriel Peters of Florida; aunts in Maine and New Hampshire; and numerous cousins in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and California. At the deceased’s request, his remains were cremated. His remains will be returned to Maine, where the family will hold a private ceremony at a later date.
