FORT KENT – Paul Emile Rioux, 85, died peacefully Oct. 24, 2009, surrounded by his loved ones at his home, after enduring a brave and fearless challenge with cancer. Paul was born June 30, 1924, in Fort Kent, the son of Emile and Edith (Marquis) Rioux. Paul is survived by his wife, Carmen (Ouellette) Rioux of Fort Kent, who was by his side throughout this journey and their 63 years of marriage. Together they raised a family of nine children, 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Their children include, Paula Robertson and deceased husband, Dale, of South Carolina, Mark Rioux and wife, Kathy, of St. Francis, Rodney Rioux of New Canada, Janet Rodgers and husband, James, of Florida, Michael Rioux and wife, Fern, of Medway, Peggy Harmon and husband, James, of Scarborough, Jean Neale and husband, Tim, of Portland, Lucie Rioux of Cape Elizabeth and Peter Rioux and wife, Susan, of Winterport; grandchildren include, Rudy Rioux and Corey Rioux and wives, Bridget and Andrea, of New Canada, Christopher Rioux and wife, Joelle, of Orono, Ted Rioux and wife, Melissa, of Gorham, Kelly Rioux and wife, Becky, of Portland, Kristy Bower and husband, Kelly, of Dover, N.H., Gabrielle Herbig and husband, Kevin, of Scarborough, Aili Harmon of Scarborough, Fiona and Elliot Neale of Portland and Carmen Rioux of Winterport; and great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Shantelle, Jessyca, Devon, Trystan and Eli Rioux, all of New Canada, Julia Rioux of Old Town, Tara Rioux of Gorham and Adelaide Bower of New Hampshire; two sisters, Germaine Boyce of Brunswick and Maria Cameron of Massachusetts; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Renaud Rioux; and two sisters, Etenette Pelletier of Frenchville and Edwina Roy of Madawaska. Paul was an avid and successful farmer for 40 years in the Poche D’our until the age of 55, and then continued his enthusiasm for work and play by traveling, playing golf and bridge, and spending time with his family. He became a member of Knights of Columbus in 1945 and was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus Council No. 0352, Fort Kent. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Fort Kent. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. Burial with full Knights of Columbus honors will be afterward at the parish cemetery.
