BANGOR – Adin L. Clark, 90, died Oct. 25, 2009, at his home after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 6, 1919, in Machias, the son of Malcolm and Florence (Reeves) Clark. Adin graduated from Machias High School, Class of 1938. His zest for life and love of learning led him to join his brother, Merle, in Boston, in 1939, and obtained employment at New England Baptist Hospital. Within a year, Adin enrolled as a student nurse at Boston Psychopathic Hospital until 1940. At the time, a call to duty resulted in his enlistment in the U.S. Army, European Theater – 134th Evacuation Hospital, Central Europe, Rhineland, as a surgical technician. During his tour of duty, 1940-1945, he was decorated with two Bronze Stars. After his discharge, he married Isabelle McCormick and settled in Bangor. They had two children, David and Debbie. They were married 25 years before Isabelle’s death in 1972. Adin remarried in 1974 to Clara E. Hanson. They celebrated 35 years of marriage in May. Adin had a 22-year career with the city of Bangor Fire Department, earning the rank of lieutenant. After retiring as a fireman, he was employed at the National Guard for 12 years and then worked for Medi Maine, Neurology Associates for several years. Adin was a member of Bangor Baptist Church, VFW Post No. 1761 of Bangor and a loyal member of Anah Shrine of Bangor. Taking great pride in establishing the Drum and Bugle Corp., Adin always had a love and appreciation for music, having played his guitar from a young age to the “Big Band” during his career in the military, and toe tapping to the music he loved from the praise and worship team at Bangor Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Clara (Hanson) Clark, is his son, David Clark of Carmel; four grandsons, Justin Clark and wife, Maura, of New Gloucester, Eric Clark and wife, Sarah, of Winnsboro, Texas, Travis Clark of Vassalboro, and Paul Laliberte of Waterville; one granddaughter, Sarah Clark of Vassalboro; and five great-grandchildren, Nathan, Emily, Abigail, Ashlyn and Alistair. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie Clark; sisters, Elsie Crane and Pauline Savage; and brother, Merle Clark. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Bangor Baptist Church, 1476 Broadway, Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Mick, officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
