HERMON – Charles “Bill” L. Harris, 88, died peacefully Oct. 28, 2009, at a local health care facility. He is now home with God, his Mildred and “Mom.” Bill was born July 14, 1921, in Fowblesburg, Md., son of Albert and Edna (Bosley) Harris. Bill came to Maine in 1941 from Langley Field, Va., with one of the first contingents to arrive at Dow Air Force Base. While stationed there he met and married his wife of 66 years, Mildred Curran, who predeceased him in December 2008. Bill was employed as a foreman and superintendent for H.E. Sargent and Bridge Construction for most of his working career. During that time he was instrumental in the completion of Interstate 95, retiring in 1986. In retirement he and Mildred spent their winters in Florida. Bill looked forward to returning to Maine in the summer to spend time fishing at Tunk Lake, and home to plant his very special gardens. Surviving are five children, Charlene H. Kimball of Hampden, Charles L. Harris Jr. and Diane T. Harris, both of Bangor, Thomas B. Harris and his wife, Debbie, of South Portland and William J. Harris and his wife, Joyce, of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Melinda A. (Harris) Kane and her husband, Michael, of Bangor, Jacob T. Harris of Dedham, William J. Harris Jr. and his wife, Tara, of Salem, Mass., and Craig Harris of Alton; one great-grandchild, Brandon A. Harris of Salem, Mass.; one brother, Lloyd “Bud” Harris of Hanover, Pa.; one sister, Dorothy Davis of Abbington, Md.; one very special niece, Edna “Skip” Coeyman and her husband, Louis “Sonny” of Glen Burnie, Md.; and one sister-in-law, Delena Curran of Bangor.
