MONTVILLE and KENNEBUNK – June M. Mitchell, 89, resident of Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Kennebunk, died Oct. 29, 2009. June was born April 9 1920, in Montville. June graduated from Frankfort High School. June was a very caring and generous person. She cared for her mother and four younger siblings at age 19, while she was working in a shoe shop in Gardiner. She joined the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in 1942, soon after World War II broke out. She was stationed in London while the city was being bombed by the Germans and was in the second echelon going into France. After the war, she went back to school earning her medical laboratory technicians degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was predeceased by her mother, Bessie W. Mitchell of Augusta; her father, Charles A. Mitchell Sr. of Frankfort; and her siblings, Marion Mitchell of Morrill, Alice M. Weston of Gardiner, Violet Clark of Belfast, Donna L. Mitchell of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Charles A. Mitchell Jr. of Frankfort, Harold L. Mitchell of Freedom and Marie H. Mitchell of Scarborough. She is survived by her siblings, Annie L. Davis of Portland, Elmin H. Mitchell of Montville, Leon O. Mitchell of Prairieville, La., and Joyce E. Gregoire of Bloomfield, Conn. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, in the new chapel at the Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
