ST. ALBANS – Doris H. Ballard, 89, died Nov. 3, 2009, at Sanfield Living Center after a short period of ill health. She was born Jan. 18, 1920, in St. Albans, the daughter of Wesley and Florence Emery Seekins. Doris was educated in St. Albans schools and was a graduate of Hartland Academy as valedictorian of the Class of 1940. She married Byron B. Ballard Sr., April 5, 1941, in St. Albans. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before his death May 18, 2002. Doris and Byron owned and operated a dairy farm. Together they worked the family farm for more than 45 years where they raised their three children, Bruce, Diane and Timothy. Doris was a charter member of Somerset County Farm Bureau, active in Somerset County Extension, Christmas Club, Helpful Workers and Chatterbox Club of St. Albans. She was a member of St. Albans Union Church for more than 50 years, serving actively as a trustee, clerk and on the mission board. She loved to display her 100-plus snowman collection every season. She was an avid Red Sox fan and could be heard cheering them on during a game. Doris is survived by her son and his wife, Bruce and Rosemary Ballard of St. Albans; her daughter and husband, Diane and Robert Landry of St. Albans; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Christopher B., Stephanie, Adam, Lisa, Christopher D. and Debbie; 14 great-grandchildren, Amanda, Angelica, Andrew, Abbie, Christina, Brandon, Erica, Jake, Katie, Danny, Madison, Robert, Kaiden and Hailey; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Byron, she was predeceased by her son, Timothy; and her 10 brothers and sisters. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, with the Rev.
