DEER ISLE – Paul R. (Burgess) Dorr, 61, a devoted and loving husband died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, while working on his traps at his workshop after a day of fishing. He was born March 28, 1948, in Castine, son of the late Carl Burgess Jr. and Margaret (Hutchinson) Haskell. Paul was a Stonington High School graduate and loved playing basketball. He was a U.S. Army sergeant and served his country during the Vietnam War era for six years. After his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to the beloved island where his heart truly was. He was a captain of the F/V, Brandi Lee II of Stonington. With his love of the sea, he lobstered and fished for halibut. Aside from the ocean, he enjoyed spending time home with his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed deer and rabbit hunting. He really enjoyed making coffee for his friends that stopped by the shop. He was a proud member of Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Stonington. Paul shared 38 years of marriage with Sue (Saucier) of Deer Isle. In addition to his wife, family members include a son, Ryan Dorr and his wife, Raquel, of Blue Hill; a daughter, Brandi Eaton and partner, Cory Dyer, of Stonington; grandchildren, Hunter, Schyler Dorr, Logan Eaton and Brooklyn Dyer; siblings, Starr Pullium and husband, Irvin, of Kissimmee, Fla., Peter Haskell and wife, Cindy, of Stonington, Debbie Robbins and husband, Benny, of Deer Isle, Alice Whatley of Ayer, Mass., Kevin Burgess and his wife, Sonya, of Stonington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by his many friends and fellow fishermen. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Clyde Haskell. A celebration of Paul’s life will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Odd Fellows Lodge, Stonington. Please come and share food, fellowship and memories with friends and family.
