BUCKSPORT – Maurice “Joe” Langevin died on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, of advanced pancreatic cancer. He was born Dec. 10, 1942. Joe ran away from home at age 17, joined the Merchant Marine, only to discover he got seasick. He joined the United States Army, served as an airborne ranger for the first enlistment. He then re-enlisted and qualified for a then elite specially trained military group, the Green Beret, Special Forces United States Army. During this time, he served two tours in Vietnam, utilizing his parachuting skills during the war as well as coordinating jumps with the South Vietnamese airborne soldiers. Later, he served in the Army’s INSCOM command. In total he served in the military for 26 years. He served them well, being awarded numerous times for his intuitiveness, bravery and plain old dedication and hard work. He was a good soldier, and loved his country. He was father to three children, Daniel, age 32, of Pennsylvania; Avalon, age 15, and Geneva, age 13, both of Bucksport. His wife, Sherry and children will miss him very much. He also has two sisters, Sylvia in Illinois and Lorraine in Cape Cod, Mass.; and a brother, David in California. What do you say about someone you’ve known for nearly 30 years, and married to for over 20 of those years? The last months we spoke about the important things. Thank you, Joe. Thanks for the grub on our plates, thanks for the shelter, the ability to live in this beautiful state, thanks for fulfilling our needs and wants, no matter how big or small, thanks for taking care of us. Thanks for caring and showing you cared, even through the most painful of your days, even when you couldn’t do much more. Thanks for coming through your pain and remembering small daily details concerning your kids that you executed no matter the pain that you rarely acknowledged. Thank you for your care in planning the details of our care and security after you died; you made sure that we would be comfortable, even though we were helpless to help you. Thank you to all of your colleagues and friends, who phoned, emailed, wrote or acted to help us and comfort us with kind words and deeds. Thank you, we are relieved you aren’t suffering any more; and we do miss you. Sherry, Avalon and Geneva Langevin Family and friends will gather to celebrate Joe’s life 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at MacLeod’s Restaurant, 63 Main St., Bucksport. Arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Bucksport.
