MACHIAS – Philip A. Foster, 83, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, surrounded by his family at his residence. He was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Milbridge, to Arnold L. and Eva (Chipman) Foster. He retired from the University of Maine at Machias after serving 30 years as a custodian with the maintenance department. Philip was a World War II Navy veteran, who also enjoyed playing the guitar, lobster fishing, woodworking, photography and hunting. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Della; son, Alan Foster of Eastport; daughter, Elaine Foster of Standish; brother, Laurence Foster of Midway; grandchildren, Jared Martin of Westburke, Vt., and Tammy Thompson of Standish; four great-grandchildren, Cameron Foster, Alyssa Martin, Tia Martin and Jared Martin Jr.; special niece, Sherry Preston; and cousins, Leamon Chipman and Lester Foster. A service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias, with Pastor Bill Holmes officiating. Interment will be after at Jacksonville Cemetery.
