BANGOR – Betty Jean Bartelme, 88, died Nov. 22, 2009, at a Bangor health care center. She was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Zanesville, Ohio. Betty taught elementary education in Connecticut and in southern Maine for many years. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Keenagers and Piburn Circle. She had been a Bible study leader and served as an officer and lecturer for Christian Women’s Club for many years. Betty was director of Lay Speaking for the northern district of the Maine annual conference. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Queen City and Riverside Granges, Penobscot Pomona, State and National Grange. Betty will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, friend, teacher, follower and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Surviving are one son, David Bartelme; grandchildren, Matt Bartelme and his wife, Lisa, Michelle Masciarelli and her husband, Rob, Eileen Scott and her husband, Joe, and Paul Bartelme; great-grandchildren, Morgan and Addison; three sisters, Marjorie Foster, Mildred Combs and Chleda Lou Archer; nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Richard Bartelme; a son, Lowell Bartelme; and two sisters, Patricia Weir and Joy Potts. She will be missed by special friends, Alice Dyer, Judy Hastings and Vicki Kolenik. The family thanks Woodlands Assisted Living and Westgate Manor for their loving care and support. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at First United Methodist Church, Essex Street, Bangor, where a funeral service will begin 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Randall C. Chretien, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
