KENDUSKEAG – John “Pa” W. Barry, 70, passed away Nov. 29, 2009, while being cared for by his family at his home. He maintained his unique sense of humor and displayed his great strength and courage through his peaceful passing. He was born Feb. 20, 1939, in Belfast, the son of the late John and Chastene (Stevens) Barry. John graduated from Crosby High School, Belfast, in 1958. As a three-sport letterman he passed on his love of sports to his children. His family was a great sense of pride for him. He especially enjoyed watching his grandsons’ ball games and taking the boys places with him. He loved to travel with his kids, whether it was to the Florida beaches, NASCAR, campgrounds or theme parks. The outdoors was one of John’s favorite places, whether he was hunting with Steve or spending time at the pond with Lee and his beloved black lab, Bear. John spent nearly 50 years and four million miles on the road as a truck driver. He loved the freedom of the open road and the countless number of friends he made along the way, from fellow drivers and co-workers to mill workers and diner employees. Remarkably John never had an accident despite the number years and miles he logged. For many years, the bug shield on his truck read “Movin On.” While John may be moving on now, for all of those he touched he will always be remembered and loved. He is survived by his loving wife, Lee (Peterson) Barry of Kenduskeag; his daughter, Karen and son-in-law, Raymond and grandson, Stephen Paul, of Belfast; his son, Stephen and daughter-in-law, Michelle and grandson, Kyle Barry, of Hampden; his first wife and mother of his children, Mina (Roberts) Barry; his sister, Phyllis and her husband, Richard Small, of Searsport; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his brothers, George Spencer, Roland Spencer and Paul Barry. The family says a special thank you to both Eva Allen; and nephew, Gary Collins, for their extraordinary support during John’s final days. An informal celebration of his life will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Shrine Club, Northport Avenue, Belfast. There will be a family committal in the spring at Grove Cemetery, Belfast. Arrangements made by Memorial Alternatives, Bangor.
