BANGOR – Lionel “Bus” E. Lord, 89, died, Sunday, Nov. 30, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. He was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Porter, the son of Clifford and Edna (Swallow) Lord. Lionel was a 1938 graduate of Oakfield High School. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1941 becoming a flight engineer and second lieutenant. Lionel graduated from the University of Maine in 1949, with a degree in education and later earned his master’s degree. He would later become the principal of Oakfield High School and for 22 years the guidance counselor at Fifth Street Junior High School, Bangor. Lionel was a member of National Education Association, Maine Education Association, Penobscot Retired Teachers Association, Kiwanis Breakfast Club of Bangor and Disabled Veterans Association. He will always be remembered as a very kind, giving and generous man. Lionel is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Edith (Hamm) Lord; daughter, Prudence Searl and her husband, Stephen Magyorsi Jr., of Bangor; and son, Wellington Estey and his wife, Dora Mae, of Mount Dora, Fla. He was predeceased by his parents. Lionel’s family thanks the staff at Maine Veterans’ Home for all their care and support. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
