DIXMONT – Evelyn May (Pinkerton) Cottrell, 75, died unexpectedly Dec. 1, 2009, at a Bangor hospital after a short period of ill health. She was born April 27, 1934, in Charleston, daughter of James A. and Lymar B. (Jackson) Pinkerton. She attended schools in Dover-Foxcroft and graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1954. For several years she worked at H.P. Hood Co., Newport. She married Woodrow W. Cottrell, June 30, 1957, in Newport. Evelyn enjoyed knitting for her family and friends as long as she was able. She looked forward to the yearly Newport High School class reunions for the Class of 1954 that were held at Goodwin Gilman’s camp in Newport. She and her husband, Woodrow, attended Glad Tidings Church, Bangor, for more than 35 years. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Woodrow W. Cottrell of Dixmont; her son and his wife, Thomas and Lois Rowe of Dixmont; two granddaughters, Lindsey Rowe and Katrina Rowe, both of Dixmont; two sisters, Betty Nutter and her husband, Edward, of Newport and Gloria Reardon of Worcester, Mass.; three sisters-in-law, Verna Pinkerton of Belfast, Amber Pinkerton of Meriden, Conn., and Clara Walton of Bangor; brother-in-law, Hervey Cottrell of Dixmont; a special aunt, Arlene Hersey of Corinna; niece, Sandra Pierce; and several other nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by special friends, Joyce and Delbert MacLaggan of Detroit, Marylou Fraser of Bangor, Donald and Betty McLaughlin of Bangor. She was predeceased by four brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be conducted noon Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport, where friends may call 11 a.m. until time of the service.
