PRESQUE ISLE – Gloria Jean (Murphy) Hill, 85, died Dec. 2, 2009, at a Presque Isle health care facility. She was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Goffstown, N.H., the daughter of William and Adora (Svenson) Murphy. She moved to Massachusetts where she married Carl Hill in 1945, later moving to Ashland in 1986, then to Presque Isle in 1999. The most important thing in Gloria’s life was her family and the time that she spent with them. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Gloria also enjoyed doing crafts, flowers, and was a very talented cook from an early age. She was a member of Union Congregational Church, Ashland and was a member of the Ladies Aid as well. Mrs. Hill enjoyed playing dominoes three times a week with her special friends from Dyer Street, Gwen McEntee, Evelyn Holder, Geraldine Brewer and Sally McLaughlin. She is survived by her son, David Hill and his wife, Suellen, of Presque Isle; a daughter, Debra Colette of Auburn; grandchildren, Lani Cabral of Auburn and her children, Gerod, Hannah and Rob, and Sean Collette of Cumberland, R.I.; stepgrandchildren, Troy Nichols of Presque Isle, Scott Nichols and his children, Paige and Cole, of Waldoboro and Beth Wintle and her husband, Scott and their children, Lexie Ellen and Lily Anne, due later this month, of Dexter; brothers, Dan Murphy of Shrewsbury, Mass., Robert Murphy and his wife, Linda, of Northborough, Mass., and Bruce Murphy of South Yarmouth and Cape Cod, Mass.; sisters, Adora Jeanotte and her husband, Warren, of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Faye Kelly of Northborough, Mass.; also by many nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Carl in 1985; a daughter, Colleen; a son-in-law, Joseph Collette; sister, Nancy Maplebeck; brothers, William Murphy and his wife, Eileen, and Floyd Murphy and his wife, Shirley; sisters-in-law, Dot Murphy and Jean Murphy; and brothers-in-law, Avard Maplebeck and Martin Kelly. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with Dr. Rev. Robert Grove-Markwood officiating. Family and friends may call 10 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial service and committal will be held at a later date in Northborough, Mass.
