FORT KENT and EAGLE LAKE – Linwood C. Callahan, 95, died peacefully Dec. 3, 2009, surrounded by his family, at a Fort Kent health care facility. He was born Aug. 28, 1914, at Eagle Lake, the son of Fred Sr. and Mary (Brown) Callahan. Linwood was a World War II veteran, and a life member of VFW Lozier O’Grady Post 9609 and American Legion Post 176 of Eagle Lake. He worked for Bangor and Aroostook Railroad as a station agent until his retirement in 1977. He is survived by three nieces and their families, Mary Andrews of Salem, Va., and her children, Marc and Erin Babine, Patricia and her husband, Art Downing, of Portland and their children, Kristin Luke, John Downing and Shanna Goodine, and Barbara and her husband, Jeffrey Sprague, of Skowhegan and their children, Kaitlyn and Drew Sprague; four great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Fred “Babe” and Howard Callahan; and one sister, Ethel Smith. A Mass of Christian burial with full military honors will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, May 29, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eagle Lake. Committal services will be after at the parish cemetery. In his memory, those who wish may donate to Visiting Nurses of Aroostook, P.O. Box 688, Caribou, ME 04736.
