BREWER – Donald Ernest Stickney, 78, died Dec. 10, 2009, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Liberty, the son of Ernest and Eva (Robb) Stickney. Donald graduated from Cony High School, Class of 1951. He attended Gates Business College, Augusta, where he earned a degree in accounting. Donald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a tank commander and retired as a sergeant. He worked for State of Maine Department of Labor – wage and hour division, until his retirement in 1996. He was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Brewer, and a life member of Bourque Lanigan American Legion Post No. 5, Waterville. Donald was an avid sports fan and enjoyed boating and camping. There are many fond memories of trips to Canada, Prince Edward Island and Schoodic Point with the family. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Anne M. (Lemieux) Stickney of Brewer; a daughter, Susan Ryan and husband, Dan, of Blue Hill; two grandchildren, Keven Haefele and Kelli Jordan and husband, Jason, the parents of his beautiful great-grandchild, Paige Elizabeth Jordan; three stepchildren, Tom Ryan, David Ryan and companion, Dawn Keene, and Dawn Russell and husband, Parker; three sisters, Katherine Couture and husband, Phil, of California, Helen Allen of Augusta, and Anne Sacre and husband, Jim, of Gardiner; a brother, Maurice Stickney and wife, Judy, of Augusta; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 425 South Main St., Brewer. Interment will be noon Monday, Dec. 14, at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
