CLOQUET, Minn. – Raymond J. Wood, 95, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Sunnyside Health Care Center, Cloquet, Minn. He was born April 21, 1914, in St. Paul, Minn., to Edward and Anna Wood. Ray served in the U.S. Army as a master sergeant during World War II and received the Bronze Star. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carol V. Walsh, Oct. 11, 1946. Ray graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Forestry, and received his master’s degree in 1949 also from the School of Forestry at the University of Minnesota. He was a member of the Society of American Foresters, Dean’s Ring of College of Natural Resources at the University of Minnesota and was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Cloquet, Minn., and the Golden K Kiwanis Club. Ray was especially proud of his work as eastern corporate forester for Diamond Corp. Ray was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Carol; and two brothers, Harry and Robert Wood. He is survived by one sister, Helen Swedberg of San Marcos, Calif.; and two sisters-in-law, Doris Strane of San Diego and Eleanor Walsh of North Ridge, Calif. The family and friends especially thank the staff at Sunnyside Health Care for the wonderful care they provided to Ray. A memorial service was held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Cloquet, Minn., officiated by the Rev. Paul Hadland and the Rev. Dennis Morreim, and music by Liz Sinisalo. Honorary pallbearers were Del Prevost, Frank Yetka, Joe Peterson, Charlie Jensen, Ray and Judy Wiles, and Jim and Bonnie Christopherson. Military honors awarded by Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
