HARRISONBURG, Va., and WASHBURN – Gladys Conley Horn, 74, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at The Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle. She was born May 4, 1935, in Washburn, the daughter of Eldridge and Gladys (Everett) Conley. She was a 1954 graduate of Washburn High School. For 42 years, she made her home in Harrisonburg, Va., before returning home to help care for her mother. Gladys was a great cook and spent her adult life as a chef. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Harrisonburg, Va.; and enjoyed playing golf upon her return to Maine. She was predeceased by her parents; an infant son, Steven Smith; her second husband, Russell Horn; two brothers, Robert and Murray Conley; and two sisters, Phyllis and Lois Conley. Surviving are her son, Randolph Smith of Grottos, Va.; a daughter, Nancy Morris of Staunton, Va.; three granddaughters and several great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by five brothers, James and Nancy Conley of Folsom, Calif., Douglas Conley of Hainesport, N.J., Ivan Conley of Florida, Wilbur and Deanna Conley of Hainesport, N.J., and Lester Conley of Dover, N.H.; three sisters, Mona Blanchard of Presque Isle, Marlene and Donald Jordan of West Chapman and Florida, and Vella Fatkin of Elizabethtown, Ky. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins; one aunt, Marcella Dean of Dover, N.H.; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Conley of Lenoir, N.C. She will be sadly missed by two special golfing buddies, her great-niece and great-nephew, Kiara and Cody Lyford. At her request, there will be no calling hours.
