HOLDEN and PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sigrid L. Freden, 90, wife of the late Verner M. Freden, died Dec. 19, 2009, at a Bangor health care center. She was born in Dorchester, Mass., the daughter of Axel and Selma (Anderson) Johnson. Sigrid moved to Maine in fall 1997 and fell in love with the state and its people during the ice storm in 1998 as she experienced their stewardship and hospitality. She grew up in Warwick, R.I., and lived in Providence, R.I., after her marriage. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Warwick, R.I. Surviving are two children, Karen Kohlmeyer and her husband, Tom, of Holden and Glenn Freden and his wife, Lisa, of Royalston, Mass.; six grandchildren, Alyssa, Laura, Kristin, Stephen, Thomas and Janis; and one sister, Marjorie Johnson of Warwick, R.I. Family and friends may visit 4-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A funeral service honoring her life will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Warwick, R.I. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Warwick, R.I.
