LILLE – Lionel A. Levesque, 73, passed away peacefully Dec. 19, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at his residence, after fighting a battle with cancer. He was born July 8, 1936, in Madawaska, the son of Alfred and Annie (Cote) Levesque. Lionel worked for the Department of Transportation for more then 30 years, until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8414 of Grand Isle. He received his honorary life membership award in recognition of his long and faithful service. He also received his gold card, which identifies him to his brother knights as one dedicated to principles of the order. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, who will be missed dearly. Lionel is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Geraldine (St. Onge) Levesque of Lille; three sons, Daniel Levesque of New Britain, Conn., Michael Levesque and his wife, Charlotte, of Meriden, Conn., and Ken Levesque of St. David; three daughters, Jacqueline Ayotte and her companion, Joe, of Detroit, Brenda Levesque and her companion, Mike, of Winslow, and Lynn Dumond and her husband, Rick, of Van Buren; eight granddaughters, Nathalie Ayotte, Jennifer Ayotte, Mia Levesque, Jaclyn Levesque, Kathryn Levesque, Keisha Cyr, Heather Dumond and Alexis Levesque; three stepgranddaughters, Elizabeth Garbe, Kaitlin Garbe and Sarah Cyr; one great-grandson, Cameron Nelson Sirois; five brothers, Joel “Pit” of St. David, Bertrand and his wife, Anne, of Fort Kent, Rheal and his wife, Albertine, of Southington, Conn., Alphe and his wife, Yolande, of East Hartford, Conn., and Armand of Southington, Conn.; five sisters, Sister Lucille Levesque of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec, Simone Deschaine of Lewiston, Muriel Chamberland and her husband, Norman, of St. Agatha, Bernadette Sirois and her husband, Norman, of Southington, Conn., and Irma Cyr of Farmington, Conn.; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Corinne Bouchard and Rhea Guerrette; and two brothers, Gilbert Levesque and Roland Levesque. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at St. Gerard Church, Grand Isle. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Daigle Funeral Home. There will be no visitation the morning of the funeral.
