MADAWASKA – Retired Army Lt. Col. Adrien Edwin Dufour, 82, passed away Dec. 22, 2009, at a Madawaska health care facility, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Madawaska, the son of Thomas and Leona (Chasse) Dufour. After graduating from the Madawaska school system, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1945. He later retired as lieutenant colonel of the Army National Guard in 1987. He was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and was a sir knight of the fourth degree of the Knights of Columbus Post No. 0366. His ministries were Marriage Encounter, Pre Cana, Kairos Prison and Cursillo Ministry. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 147, Madawaska. He was involved with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts Master Troop 190. Adrien is survived by his wife of 60 years, Therese (Theriault) Dufour, whom he married, Dec. 26, 1949; one son, Peter Dufour of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Maryse Capobianco of Andover, Conn., and Lynne Raymond of Presque-Isle; two brothers, Louis Dufour and Roland Dufour; and one sister, Lucille Bouchard. He was predeceased by one son, Michael Dufour; one grandson, Bryan Chapman; and two sisters, Dorilda and Irene. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Friends and family may call 8 a.m. until time of service at Daigle Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson’s Association, 5 Bucknam Road, Falmouth, ME 04105. Spring interment will be at Caribou Veterans’ Cemetery.
