BARTOW, Fla., and BANGOR – Howard “Bud” Mullins, 87, passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at his Florida residence. Bud was born May 26, 1922, in Detroit, son of Howard and Cathleen “Mallory” Mullins. He graduated from Bangor High School, where he was a standout, three-sport athlete. He was quarterback of two undefeated back-to-back state championships in football. He attended the University of Maine and played football until enlisting in the Army Air Force during World War II, serving in New Guinea. He owned and operated Century 21 Queen City Real Estate and Insurance for 40 years. Bud enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially fly-fishing the Mirimachi River in Canada. He was an exceptional golfer, having once eagled the ninth hole at Penobscot Valley Country Club. Bud especially enjoyed his summers with family and friends at Branch Lake and later on at Beech Hill Pond. He spent the last few years in Florida with his wife, Marilyn, enjoying his sunporch overlooking the lake and watching his favorite sports teams. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; three daughters, Beverly Wyse and her husband, Richard, of Cumberland, Barbara Whitten and her husband, William, of Yarmouth and Theresa Whitehouse and her husband, Kenny, of Bangor; and his four sons, Gregory Mullins and his wife, Debbie, of Brewer, Joseph Mullins and his wife, Audrey, of Bucksport, John Mullins and his wife, Susan, of Bangor, and Christopher Mullins of Bangor. He also leaves behind his 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be private.
