BANGOR and EASTPORT – Sharon A. Flanagan, 64, died Dec. 28, 2009, at her home in Eastport. She was born March 29, 1945, in Bangor, the daughter of Thomas H. and Clara M. (Veno) Flanagan Sr. Sharon was born into a large and loving family that was full of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, as well as two older sisters and one older brother. While her family made sure that her daily life was as uncomplicated as possible, Sharon’s happiness at doing the things she enjoyed was evident. A lover of books, music, animals and coloring, she spent many hours doing all these things, always going upstairs to freshen up before sitting down to dinner. She said this was just the “right thing” to do. She was a great conversationalist, a self-taught writer and would happily tell you all she knew about the habits of many different animals. Her interest in them was endless and endearing to all listeners. After the deaths of her parents, and older sister, Pauline, Sharon ultimately came to live at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home, Eastport. It was a stressful move for her, as Sharon needed to acclimate herself to new people, a new facility and she needed to learn to trust new caregivers. She did this with her usual resolve and courage while making many new friends among the staff. They cared for her wonderfully and Sharon trusted them completely. Sharon is survived by her brother, Thomas Flanagan and sister-in-law, Anne Flanagan, of Brewer; her sister, Joan Corbett of Bangor; nieces, Susan Stout and Jean Bladen; and nephews, Thomas Corbett and David Corbett, Michael Flanagan and Kevin Flanagan. In addition to her parents and sister, Sharon was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Francis Corbett; and a nephew, James Corbett. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. Family and friends may visit 9:30 a.m. until procession to the church at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. Burial will be immediately afterward at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
