SUNSET – Edith P. Marshall, 95, passed away Jan. 2, 2010, at her home. She was born July 14, 1914, in Deer Isle, the daughters of John S. and Martha (Smith) Pickering. Edith taught school on the island for many years, was a long time organist at Sunset Congregational Church and a charter member of Deer Isle Historical Society. She is survived by her five children, Janet L. Snowden of Deer Isle, John E. Snowden and his wife, Catherine, of Deer Isle, Darrell J. Snowden and his wife, Joice, of Delaware, Ohio, Martha A. Fougere and her husband, Kenneth, of Deer Isle, and Pamela E. Gray and her husband, Douglas, of Bucksport. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Jason G. Snowden and Gilman Marshall; her brother, Archie W. Pickering; a son, Robert W. Snowden; and grandsons, Barry L., Robert L. and Marshall J. Thompson. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 9 Thurlow’s Hill, Stonington. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Deer Isle Congregational Church.
