EASTPORT – Earle Eastman Ferris passed away peacefully Jan. 6, 2010, at his home. At his bedside were his daughters from his first marriage, Donna Wright and Mary “Cissy” Caraker; and his son-in-law, Robert Wright. Earle was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Eastport, to Lillian M. MacDonald and William P. Ferris. Earle was raised in Eastport by his grandparents, Edgar and Mary MacDonald. After graduating from Shead High School in 1938, he moved to Washington, D.C. where he met his first wife, Dolores Drury. He was working for Safeway Stores, Inc. when he was drafted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps until 1945. Earle and Dolores were married March 1943 while he was on furlough. After being honorably discharged, he returned to work for Safeway Stores, retiring after working there for more than 30 years. His first wife, Dolores died in 1973. In 1978, he married Viola Van Tassel of Upper Marlboro, Md., where the couple lived until Viola’s death in June 2002. Earle was also predeceased by his brother, John and his sister, Faith Macreadie. He is survived by his two daughters; his grandchildren, Bryndyn and Shannon Weiner, and Matthew Caraker; one great-grandson, Aleksander Weiner; his sister, Yvonne Merrill; his half brothers, David, Billy and Ronnie; and a half sister, Carol Patulak. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Mays Funeral Home-Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. A Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Washington Street, Eastport, with Father James Plourde officiating.
