BANGOR – Millicent Marguerite Coffin, 83, passed away peacefully Jan. 5, 2010, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born April 26, 1926, in Bangor, to Doris Coffin. Millicent was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1943 and went on to attend Providence Bible Institute, Providence, R.I. She graduated from Houghton College in New York. She retired in 1991 from Affiliated Laboratories, Bangor, where she worked as a laboratory technologist. Millicent began her career at Eastern Maine General Hospital. She was a longtime member of Columbia Street Baptist Church and served as church clerk for a number of years. Millicent gave to many charities and sponsored two children through Christian Children’s Fund. She is survived by her daughter, Colleen L. (Coffin) Hughes and son-in-law, Edward J. Hughes III, of Bangor; three grandchildren, Erin (Hughes) O’Connors, Alicia Hughes and E.J. Hughes IV; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Doris; father, William; and a sister, Iva Jean Higgins. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with Pastor Peter Sprague, of Columbia Street Baptist Church, officiating.
