FAIRFIELD, Calif. – Mrs. Constance Klemme died Jan. 8, 2010, in Fairfield, Calif., after a long and full life. She was born in 1925, in Bangor, the daughter of Mary and Reginald Cratty. She grew up attending local schools and later Marymount Academy and Marymount College, Tarrytown, N.Y. She was a graduate of the University of Maine, Orono. After college, she was employed briefly in San Francisco and Alaska. In June 1949, she was sent to Frankfurt, Germany, with U.S. Displaced Persons Commission. Later, she transferred to the office of the U.S. Land Observer for Schleswig-Holstein, Kiel, Germany, and from there to U.S. Consulate, Munich, Germany. Her last job in Germany was at the U.S. Army Intelligence School, Oberammergau, Germany. While visiting her home in Maine, she met and married Maj. Meade Klemme, U.S. Air Force. The Klemmes lived in Maine, Nebraska and Madrid, Spain, before Col. Klemme was assigned to Travis Air Force Base. They settled in Green Valley, where they have resided for more than 40 years. Mrs. Klemme was a local realtor for several years. She was a longtime member of Green Valley Country Club. She also served a term on the Solano County Grand Jury. She belonged to Green Valley Land Owners Association and served on that board from 1991 to 1993. She was a lifelong Howard Street Hornet. Mrs. Klemme loved to travel. She also enjoyed playing bridge and many other social activities. In her youth she had been an avid equestrian, sailor and skier. She is survived by her devoted husband of more than 50 years; by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Ilka Klemme; and by two grandsons, Matthew and Oliver, all of Amsterdam, the Netherlands and Sydney, Australia. She is also survived by brothers, Richard B. Cratty of New Port Richey, Fla., and James W. Cratty II of Crofton, Md.; and by her sister, Mrs. Louise C. Holmes of Edgecomb. There will be a memorial service 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at Rockville Cemetery Stone Chapel.
